Naked Blue – Weightless (2013)

Weightless is a studio album by the American rock band Naked Blue, released on December 12, 2013, on the independent label Bluetick Records. This record marked the triumphant return of the Baltimore duo Jen and Scott Smith after a long hiatus from full-length releases.

The album's sound combines soft, melancholy folk ballads with dense, dynamic rock numbers. Particular attention was paid to sonic detail: in addition to the familiar guitars, the arrangements feature Hammond organ, cello, and percussion. Jen Smith's piercing and powerful vocals sound incredibly open and emotional.

The lyrics focus on themes of life experience, overcoming difficulties, trust, love, and the ability to "shed weight," which are directly reflected in the album's title.
