“13 Months In Zion” is a collaboration between singer Ras Teo (Teo Hartoonian) and Spanish producer Roberto Sánchez, known as Lone Ark, released on A-Lone Productions / Moses & Aaron. Sánchez handled the entire production cycle — recording, mixing and mastering — at his own A-Lone Ark Muzik Studio in Cueto, Spain, and wrote most of the material and arrangements.
The record features the Lone Ark Riddim Force: Sánchez plays drums, bass, piano, organ, guitars and backing vocals; Reuben “Ras” Telford adds strings, Rhodes, clavinet and melodica; a horn section of Bruno Sánchez, Gorka “Junior G” Fernández, Saioa Jorrín and Jimmy C. Montes is complemented by additional percussion. The result combines the organic band feel of roots reggae with a carefully developed dub aesthetic.
The album has 14 tracks, including “Long Time,” “Walk The Path,” “Come Back Yah So,” “Massa Babylon,” “Until Shiloh Come,” “Shaka Warrior” and “Back A Bush,” plus the dub version “Shaka Warrior Dub.” Only “Walk The Path” is a co-write, with Gregory Tate (Jah Golden Sun). Five tracks — “Long Time,” “Walk The Path,” “Shaka Warrior,” “Happiness” and “Back A Bush” — were released as singles ahead of the album.
