Roots Architects is an unprecedented all-instrumental reggae project that brings together over 50 of Jamaica’s greatest session musicians, spanning from the birth of reggae in the late 1960s to today. These legendary figures—often the unsung heroes behind reggae’s global rise—were reunited in Kingston studios to create new instrumental music, celebrating their lifelong contributions to the genre.
Following the success of the 2024 album From Then 'Til Now, the new release From Dub 'Til Now dives into vintage dub aesthetics, masterfully mixed by Roberto Sánchez, echoing the golden era of dub legends like King Tubby, Lee "Scratch" Perry, and Scientist.
The project was initiated by Swiss producer and keyboardist Mathias Liengme, who began working with Jamaican legends in 2013. By 2017, he returned to Kingston to gather iconic musicians aged 60 to 85—such as Sly & Robbie, Ernest Ranglin, Vin Gordon, Dean Fraser, and members of Third World—to record nine deeply rooted tracks.
Critics hail it as a monumental, once-in-a-lifetime achievement that honors the original architects of ska, rocksteady, and reggae. More than just an album, From Dub 'Til Now is a living archive and tribute to Jamaica’s rich musical legacy.
