Sam Rosenthal, founder of Projekt and Black Tape For A Blue Girl, and Norwegian musician Arin Aksberg have released five reinterpretations of “Homecoming,” a track originally included on the album NORDIC PATTERNS. The new versions develop the original melodic themes and instrumentation, stretching, re-evaluating, and returning to them, exploring the sense of safety and calm after a long journey.
Twenty-seven-year-old Arin lives in Alta, a town of about 21,000 people north of the Arctic Circle. It is a cold, beautiful, and harsh place where life stirs feelings of longing, desire, and survival. Sixty-year-old Sam lives in Portland, Oregon, and by his own sense is inspired less by his surroundings than by his connection to the sonic side of art.
The story began in late 2023, when Arin sent Sam the album NORDIC PATTERNS for release on Projekt. Sam liked the sequencer-driven track “Homecoming” and asked permission to add melodic lead synthesizer parts to it. It was the first time in a long while that Sam himself felt like making music. Arin was delighted with the result and worked the new parts into the final mix of the album, released in early 2024. A few months ago, Sam suggested a separate release of reworkings of that track. Each musician worked on their own versions independently, and the result is five sonic evolutions on the theme of returning home.

1. Arin Aksberg & Sam Rosenthal - Homecoming (Edit)
2. Arin Aksberg & Sam Rosenthal - Å komme hjem
3. Arin Aksberg & Sam Rosenthal - Homecoming
4. Arin Aksberg & Sam Rosenthal - A Return to Home
