Swedish composer and XKatedral co-founder Maria W Horn released her full-length album Melting Pillars of Snow, inspired by W.G. Sebald's novel The Rings of Saturn and themes of temporal perception. Recorded with a chamber ensemble, the album features a rare instrumentarium including contrabass recorder, Japanese shō, guitars, specialized overtone percussion, bowed crotales, and a spoken-word appearance by Michael Gira (Swans). The work bridges acoustic chamber avant-garde arrangements with algorithmic synthesis, drone, and electroacoustic processing to construct a deeply immersive minimalist environment.
