Hawaiian ukulele virtuoso Brittni Paiva, a four-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winner, is releasing Through the Chaos, her first album in fourteen years, on September 18, 2026. It is co-produced by Paiva herself and the duo TheBrewz, also Hōkū winners, who have worked with PARTYFOUL (formerly Crossing Rain), Thomas Iannucci, and Ragamuffs.
During her long break, Paiva toured the world, racked up millions of views and streams, performed alongside Jake Shimabukuro and Carlos Santana, and recorded with Grammy winners and living legends, from Tom Scott to Taj Mahal. At the same time she went through serious hardship, struggling with mental health issues and addiction. That experience seems to have pushed her to take the ukulele to its creative limits. She reached out to TheBrewz when the album was already under way.
The result is an unusual record at the crossroads of electronic, pop, and contemporary music that opens new territory in the ukulele world. Paiva deliberately writes in the instrument’s most awkward keys (B-flat, D-flat, E-flat), which ukulele players typically avoid. The album is entirely instrumental, yet each piece is composed “lyrically”: the ukulele doesn’t merely play but, in effect, sings, which yields unusual melodic and stylistic choices.
Paiva calls the music futuristic, the boldest and most forward-looking of her career, and unlike anything currently being played on the ukulele. Evan “takeokun” Fujimoto of TheBrewz stresses that the project reimagines an instrument with deep traditions in a contemporary pop context without losing its authenticity.
Tracklist:
1. Brittni Paiva - god mode
2. Brittni Paiva - could have been a mess
3. Brittni Paiva - fading (interlude)
4. Brittni Paiva - never let you fade
5. Brittni Paiva - riding through the chaos
6. Brittni Paiva - i am
7. Brittni Paiva - must've been drunk
8. Brittni Paiva - say when
9. Brittni Paiva - comment section
10. Brittni Paiva - grow with you
11. Brittni Paiva - to the moon and back
