Following the release of their debut album Myrra (2023), Greek musicians Tasos Kofodimos (lute) and Yvonne Melissa (violin) embarked on their second major musical project, Kormόs, named after the Greek word for "tree trunk." The concept centered on combining distinctive timbres within a specially formed chamber string quartet featuring Iranian cellist Mahyar Tahmasbi and Catalan violist Laia Escartin alongside the project's founders.
The core compositions were written during an artist residency in Amsterdam and polished through collaborative rehearsals. Recorded in November 2025 at Suninside Studio in Athens, the album was rounded out with guest contributions from Thodoris Ziarkas (double bass), Kudsi Erguner (ney), and Andreas Polyzogopoulos (trumpet). Each piece is inspired by a specific tree, drawing upon its mythology, physical characteristics, folk folklore, and personal stories, while the album title underscores the organic, wooden nature of the string instruments at its heart. The production was funded by the Amarte Fonds.
