Lithuanian artist Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė of Merope and Mapuche musician Eli Wewentxu from Patagonia and Araucanía joined forces for a collaborative experimental improvisation session. Having met shortly before the recording without sharing a common spoken language, the duo forged a musical dialogue during an intuitive summer session captured by Merope’s Bert Cools.
The record centres on the interaction between the traditional Lithuanian kankles played by Jurgelevičiūtė and Wewentxu's instrumentation, which includes the violin and the txompe (jaw harp). Questioning the violin's traditional role within Western classical music and using it as an act of cultural resistance, Wewentxu weaves avant-garde, xenharmonic microtonal textures and sharp rhythmic patterns. Paired with Jurgelevičiūtė’s hypnotic, lullaby-like kankles loops and e-bow technique, the project crafts a distinct fusion of experimental folk, indigenous traditional music, and acoustic avant-garde.
