Saxophonist Kevin Sun announces lofi at lowlands 二, the second volume in his series that transforms live jazz through innovative post-production. Scheduled for release on November 14, 2025, the album represents a more focused and meditative evolution of the experimental approach, built on variations of a single composition, "shimmering," conceived as a triptych of hypnotic loops. Sun uses overlaid performances and dynamic panning, recorded at Brooklyn's Lowlands Bar in April 2024 with bassist Walter Stinson and drummer Kayvon Gordon, to create a "mirrored trio" where two versions of the band phase in and out of sync. The goal is to explore how improvisation can develop around minimal compositional material and how "past and future selves converging on the present" occurs during performance. Sun employs post-production techniques like strategic tempo adjustments and a cavernous delay effect to create an immersive, ambiently dynamic texture of mostly acoustic improvised music.
