The Dome Sessions is an immersive sonic exploration rooted in the acoustic and symbolic resonance of the unfinished Dome of the Rachid Karami International Fair in Tripoli, Lebanon. Originally designed by iconic architect Oscar Niemeyer in 1962, the structure was abandoned due to the Lebanese Civil War and now stands as a haunting symbol of unrealized potential.
Since 2010, audiovisual artist and curator Firas El Hallak has used the Dome as a living monument — one that refracts the city’s complex narratives through site-specific sound experiments. The Dome’s untreated concrete shell produces a rare, cavernous reverb that becomes an active element in every performance.
What began as a solitary inquiry has grown into a collaborative platform, with artists adapting to the Dome’s sonic peculiarities and layered history. These recordings, part of a larger film project, reclaim the space not only physically but symbolically — turning abandonment into creative potential.
More than an album, The Dome Sessions is an act of collective memory and architectural engagement. It invites listeners to inhabit a space through sound, while reflecting on heritage, decay, and the power of reimagination.
