Demian Castellanos, leader of the psychedelic project The Oscillation, which has worked in the underground for twenty years, released the album “Interference” on October 30, 2026 via the label Fuzz Club. The project’s music has always been built on texture, repetition and atmosphere rather than conventional song structure, and here that approach is taken to its limit. Castellanos himself calls the record “a painting of sound”: he aimed for a “beautiful noise”, both accessible and extreme, while trying not to let the material disintegrate and lose meaning.
The sound rests on dense layers of drone, feedback and motorik rhythms, from which warmth, colour and even euphoria unexpectedly emerge. Chaos works here as a full-fledged instrument, sculpted into hypnotic, immersive compositions.
The album took shape intuitively. Sketches conceived as intros, outros or discarded ideas gradually overshadowed the songs themselves, and the process resembled “Chinese whispers with musical instruments”. Two compositions, “Stasis” and “When You Close Your Eyes”, lay unfinished for almost twenty years before making it onto the record.
Castellanos recorded and mixed the material at his home studio in the Czech Republic. A key role was played by the Mexican musician Lorena Quintanilla of the band Lorelle Meets The Obsolete: her vocal on “La Alusion” (she wrote its lyrics and melody herself) turned an instrumental sketch into the dreamlike centrepiece of the album and helped define the track order. She also sings on “Isolation Freeway”.
The backstory is telling too: a couple of years ago Castellanos’s hi-fi broke, and he largely stopped listening to music, wanting to see what would happen without outside influences. He relied on instinct, memory and experimentation. The result is one of the most adventurous and emotionally resonant works by The Oscillation, combining hypnotic repetition, spectral beauty and controlled sonic disruption.
