Independent record label Northern Spy Records, in collaboration with Bob Holmes of the group SUSS, launched the artist-curated compilation series Across the Horizon. Designed to bridge diverse corners of the experimental instrumental music scene, the project employs a collaborative structure where featured curators select fellow musicians to contribute original, exclusive material.
The soundscapes of the series center on the intersections of ambient, avant-garde guitar traditions, post-rock, and ambient country. The roster highlights prominent figures of the modern underground, including William Tyler, Marisa Anderson, Mark Nelson (Pan-American), David Moore (Bing & Ruth), and claire rousay. Utilizing pedal steel guitar, layered strings, field recordings, and subtle electronic processing, the release constructs expansive, meditative sonic environments that evoke open spaces and drifting atmospheres.
