Italian musician Tobia Poltronieri has recorded an album that sounds like a musical portrait of an old house full of memory. Dusty furniture, bed linen locked in a wooden wardrobe and now claimed by spiders, and the sense that ancestors are watching from a nearby constellation turn the past into the force that shapes the present. Recorded in the places where the musician lives every day, the music seems to catch the spirits of those rooms off guard and fix them in an old-fashioned sound-picture.
The project is conceived as a film with a taste of the past, yet vivid with colour and with the participation of friends and collaborators, both long-standing and current. The approach is free: soundscapes, improvisation, moments of solitude and nocturnal contemplation. The guitar takes the lead role, its voice carrying the thread of the plot, while the sound palette is enriched with electronics, tapes and “voices from beyond.”
The listener travels from the rooms up to the garret, then outdoors: along the paths of rural Sardinia and through the alleys of Verona, past a waterfall and a mill (keeping an eye out for snakes), and finally out to sea on a vessel under the stars, unhurried and savouring every pause
