Michael Scott Dawson - Long Slow Distance (2026)
The album Long Slow Distance by musician and guitarist Dawson explores themes of inner peace, forgiveness, processing grief, and the metaphor of distance running. Having taken up running at the same time he began making records, the artist turned the philosophy of long, slow-paced endurance into a central creative ethos. Departing from the dense collages of his previous releases, the new record relies on a minimalist framework: each track consists of three long guitar takes panned across the stereo field with minimal overdubbing. Limiting digital intervention, the musician treated the computer merely as a vessel to collect organic sound.

The sonic landscape blends meditative ambient and acoustic folk. Guitar chords dissolve smoothly, giving way to sparse melodic motifs, salt-air weathered tones, and shimmering textures. The integration of field recordings and subtle audio artifacts grounds the material, creating an expansive space that drifts at a glacial pace.
