John Salvage - Ohio (2026) Hi-Res

Some roads take you back to where you started, others show how far you’ve wandered. Following both, the emotional transparency is so evident here, that it feels almost voyeuristic to listen to John Salvage singing with all his soul: “Come back home to Ohio now.” You’ll understand that this is his most personal album to date; the Detroit-based singer-songwriter performs twelve songs about the slippery business of finding your way home, held up by complicated relationships and hard-earned lessons.

Fusing introspective reflections and guitar-driven heartland rock, it’s always the sincere vocal grit that hits the hardest. At times it feels like alt-country is being kicked in the ass by rock ‘n’ roll; quiet moments leave room for uncomfortable truth, then slow-burning melodies grow into full-throated anthems, with harmonica adding a little extra fire. This is a powerful fist bump to the places we leave behind, and the pieces of ourselves that stay there.
