Crash Politics formed in the early 1980s and, by the time they recorded the album, had caught the attention of music manager Tony Murphy, becoming his first signing to the rooArt label. Recordings took place in Sydney at Paradise and CBS Studios, and some tracks (including singles) were mixed in London at the renowned Sarm Studios.
The album's sound is in keeping with the Australian indie scene of the late '80s: guitar-driven alternative rock with strong pop melodies and a post-punk vibe. The songs received strong play on the cult Sydney radio station 2JJ (Triple J), and the track "Bitter Rain" was also included on the label's debut compilation of young talent, Young Blood. Unfortunately, the band's massive national tour in support of the album ended immediately after the first concert: the musicians were involved in a serious car accident in Wagga Wagga, which left bassist Ross Farnell hospitalized for months of rehabilitation.
