Edward Ka-Spel - Red Letters (2000)

This represents the electronic, psychedelic side of Edward Ka-Spel’s work, built upon a distinctive blend of keyboards, repetitive rhythmic patterns, unusual sonic details, and his signature semi-whispered vocals. Rachel K. also contributed to the recordings, providing vocals and playing the flute.

However, the music is far from being limited to dark electronica. Melodic passages with an almost weightless, floating quality alternate with hypnotic repetitions and surreal sonic combinations. The songs gradually coalesce into a single, cohesive narrative, yet an underlying sense of inner restlessness lurks beneath the surface calm throughout.

(The original 2000 CD contains 11 separate tracks; on later remastered editions, the material was reorganized into seven compositions.)
