Floh de Cologne - Lieder aus der Rock-Oper Koslowsky (1980)

"Lieder aus der Rock-Oper Koslowsky" (1980) is one of the most mature and coherent works by the legendary Cologne avant-garde commune Floh de Cologne, released at the end of their active creative career. The album is a studio adaptation of their large-scale political rock opera, which tells the story of an ordinary German worker named Koslowsky. Through the lens of the protagonist's life story, the band explores class inequality, capitalist oppression, industrialization, and social alienation in West Germany in the late 1970s. From a prog musicological perspective, the album demonstrates the band's evolution from the chaotic proto-punk and colloquial agitprop of the late 1960s to a complex symphonic prog structure and dramaturgy.
