British musical project REIGNS, founded by brothers Roo and Tim Farthing in Somerset, has crafted its eighth studio album titled The Antigeist. For this record, the core duo expanded into a four-piece band for the first time, bringing in drummer/arranger Rob Ellis (known for his work with PJ Harvey and Marianne Faithfull) alongside bassist Joe Thompson of Hey Colossus. The initial material was captured during a live tracking session at Axe & Trap Studios in Somerset before the musicians spent a year deconstructing and refining the arrangements to locate the core of each piece.
The new album marks a distinct shift in the group's sonic trajectory. REIGNS moved away from their signature spoken word delivery and harsh industrial soundscapes in favor of structured songwriting and clear, unmasked lead vocals. The founders also discarded their longstanding anonymous aliases (Operative A and Operative B) to credit their real names for the first time. Despite these changes, the music retains its uneasy, creeping folk horror atmosphere. Conceptually, the lyrics deliver an apocalyptic reaction to contemporary societal issues, addressing poverty, fascism, unchecked ambition, religious hypocrisy, migration myths, and suicide, transforming traditional horror tropes into a direct commentary on modern life.
