Il paese del tramonto (The Land of Sunset, 2015) is the conceptual pinnacle of the Parma quartet Unreal City, cementing their status as leaders of the young wave of contemporary RPI. The album tells a dark and romantic dystopian story about a city condemned to eternal twilight, where residents have lost the ability to perceive light and shadow. Led by keyboardist and vocalist Emanuele Tarasconi, the band takes the iconic sound of vintage RPI from the 1970s and enriches it with a more contemporary neo-prog drive, guitar-inflected intonations, and complex academic polyphony.
