Released in 1975 on Southwind (with distribution by Buddah Records) under catalog number SWS 6402, the self-titled debut vinyl LP by American mid-1970s collective Free Beer captures the quintessential West Coast acoustic and rural-infused soundscape. Recorded at Bell Sound Studios and Mayfair Recording Studios, the 12-track album features rich vocal harmonies and instrumental arrangements reminiscent of groups like Eagles and Pure Prairie League. The sessions brought together an elite roster of session players, including drummer Bernard Purdie, multi-instrumentalist Eric Weissberg on fiddle and dobro, and saxophonist Bob Mintzer, complementing core members Michael Packer, Sandy Allen, and Caleb Potter. Spanning tracks such as I'm In Love, Brandy & Beer, Zanzibar, and River Of Wine, the record delivers an exquisite blend of layered acoustic guitars, subtle keyboards, and laid-back storytelling.
