Highway Robbery is the second studio album by the New York-based country rock group Free Beer, released in 1976 by RCA Victor. Formed by Michael Packer, Sandy Allen, and Robert Caleb Potter following the dissolution of Packer's previous group, Papa Nebo, the trio laid down a sound rooted in acoustic songcraft and multi-part vocal harmonies. The album was recorded at Bell Sound Studios in New York City, produced by Alan Lorber and engineered by Harry "Fingers" Yarmark. The recording sessions featured a robust group of guest and session players, including drummer Jerry Marotta, keyboardist Ralph Schuckett, percussionist Daniel Ben Zebulon, and guitarists Werner Fritzsching and Dan Daley on pedal steel. A quintessential artifact of mid-70s East Coast country rock, Highway Robbery captures Free Beer's balance between folk-tinged acoustic balladry and polished radio-oriented rock production.
