Musician Raphael Vanoli releases his second solo album ventschau via carton records. The title refers to a small village in northern Germany, where the artist spent five years in creative isolation surrounded by nature. This experience shaped the organic aesthetic of the record, blending elements of avant-garde, ambient, and experimental rock.
The core feature of the album is the use of "blowing" techniques on a hyperamplified electric guitar, where sound and resonance are generated by breathing and singing directly into the strings. The instrumentation also expands to include a Fender Bass VI, a 12-string electric guitar, and a steel-string acoustic guitar. The musical material weaves mantra-like structures, a traditional Bolivian melody alti plano, and vast dynamic range—spanning from fragile quiet textures to dense wall-of-sound passages. Recorded live to analogue tape at Electric Monkey Studio with minimal takes, the album preserves an unpolished and immediate performance quality.
