The album was recorded by Alan Lomax in August 1978 on the front porch of Sam Chatmon's home in Hollandale, Mississippi. Sam Chatmon was a Delta blues veteran, a former member of the famous 1930s ensemble the Mississippi Sheiks, and co-writer of the seminal standard "Sitting on Top of the World."
At the time of the recording, Chatmon was about 80 years old. The album showcases his steady, deliberate fingerpicking technique on acoustic guitar and his relaxed vocal style. The program includes classic Delta repertoire, blues ballads, and folk numbers.
The recordings were restored by Jessica Thompson directly from the archival sources and are being released as a standalone album for the first time in 2026.
