Captured by Alan Lomax in 1978 in the North Mississippi Hill Country, On The Farm documents country blues figure R.L. Burnside during a period when he was actively farming and performing locally.
The album showcases Burnside's signature Hill Country blues style, defined by drone-like rhythmic guitar vamps, thumb-picked bass lines, and raw vocal delivery. Captured in outdoor and rural porch settings, the sessions reflect the regional tradition before Burnside's late-career commercial breakout.
Mastered from original tapes by Jessica Thompson, this 2026 release brings these historical 1978 field recordings to streaming platforms for the first time.
