The Canadian husband-and-wife duo Evie, who began their creative journey in Manitoba before settling in Winnipeg, recorded intimate home sessions between 1995 and 2000. Expanding into a trio with the addition of a guitarist, the project left behind a modest archive of home-recorded tapes, compilation appearances, and rare self-released CDRs. The record label se Dessaisir Publishing, managed by Justin Cantrell of J and the Woolen Stars, compiled these lost recordings into a 15-track retrospective anthology titled "Last Forever."
The musical archive spans a diverse spectrum of sounds, moving from raw C86 guitar pop to hushed ambient folk, slowcore, jangle pop, and dream pop. Rosie's vocal delivery ranges from acoustic arrangements accompanied by tape hiss and environmental recordings in "Happy Somewhere" to half-spoken vocals over broken drum machines in "Journey's End." The instrumentation combines minimalist organs, gritty guitar textures, and subtle orchestration, drawing comparisons to artists like The Delgados, Belle and Sebastian, The Breeders, The Cat's Miaow, and Empress. The compilation stands as an archival document of late 1990s independent music production.
