Racines - Arilos Mennar (2026)

Racines - Arilos Mennar (2026)

BAND/ARTIST: Racines

The musical project Racines has released the nine-track album Arilos Mennar, combining archaic Mediterranean traditions with contemporary electronic music. The album title references pomegranate seeds (Arilos) and the Algerian phrase "from fire" (Mennar), symbolizing the fusion of heritage, memory, and generative feminine energy. The vocal lines and lyrics intertwine Arabic, Italian, Spanish, French, Greek, and Ladino without hierarchy, prioritizing the phonetic texture of language to convey stories of resilience and liberation.

The release's sonic architecture balances pulsating synthetic rhythms with acoustic traditional instrumentation. The production features percussionists Taha Ennouri and Ali Belazi, multi-instrumentalist Carmelo Colajanni (utilizing duduk, arghul, bansuri, and zampogna), oud player Simone Santarelli, and producer Borda, who brings hypnotic electronic tension to the track Nari. The album moves from the metaphorical marketplace narrative of Market Miracolo to the sparse closing piece Rumman, where voice and oud converge in a meditation on roots and distance.
