A Bosnian-Italian string quartet led by first violinist and vocalist Kristina Mlinar, featuring guest guitarist Piercarlo Favro, presents an album of interpretations of classic Bosnian sevdalinka songs. Recorded at the Pavarotti Music Center in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the project originated in Trieste, where Kristina Mlinar introduced traditional Bosnian folk songs to her fellow classical musicians. Centered on themes of tragic love, the repertoire highlights "Emina," Aleksa Šantić’s celebrated poem popularized in sevdalinka form by Himzo Polovina. Musically, the album contrasts the refined European classical structure of a string quartet with tense, fragile vocal performances and dramatic tonal colors, merging academic string arrangements with Balkan world music heritage.
