Hibushibire - Phantom Fuzzy Exotica (2026)

Hibushibire - Phantom Fuzzy Exotica (2026)

BAND/ARTIST: Hibushibire

The fifth studio album Phantom Fuzzy Exotica by Osaka-based quartet HIBUSHIBIRE expands the band's signature sonic universe, blending psychedelic rock, '70s hard rock, and folk rock. Released on purple marble vinyl complete with a Japanese-style obi strip, the record marks a shift from their earlier mostly instrumental output, featuring lead vocals on four of its five tracks alongside a single instrumental piece nodding directly to Frank Zappa.

The album's narrative structure alternates between heavy riff-driven songs, understated passages, and expansive psych jams. The opening track "Mandrake Oracle," built around a central guitar riff by changchang, was conceived as a stylistic hybrid of Deep Purple and Pink Floyd. "Minagoroshi Western" serves as a cinematic score to a fictional spaghetti western, "Daydream Rendezvous" delivers acid psychedelic folk, and the record closes with a cover of the traditional Occitan song "Ai Vist Lo Lop," originally performed by Mont-Jòia, featuring an intricate a cappella arrangement.
