This release is an archival live recording by the legendary Hindustani classical vocalist and Kirana gharana doyen, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. The performance was captured in 1997 at the Moreton School Hall in Leicester, UK. It was officially released on digital streaming platforms on August 14, 2026, as part of an ongoing collaborative initiative between Navras Records and Sony Music Entertainment India to digitize historical live concerts held at British venues during the 1990s.
For digital distribution, the concert material has been split into two separate volumes. The first volume focuses on performances of Raga Kalashree and Raga Suha Kanada. Notably, the evening raga Kalashree is an original creation of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi himself, seamlessly blending the characteristics of Raga Kalavati and Raga Bageshree. The performance follows a traditional Hindustani structure, moving from slow, contemplative vocal compositions (vilambit khayal) set to the 10-beat jhaptaal to fast-paced ones (drut khayal) in the 16-beat teentaal.
The second volume, released simultaneously, features renditions of Raga Sur Malhar, Raga Desh, and the traditional closing piece, Raga Bhairavi. Raga Sur Malhar is closely associated with the monsoon season, while the concert concludes with a semi-classical thumri in Raga Bhairavi, set to the 14-beat deepchandi taal. Both parts of this release offer a valuable historical document of the vocalist's mastery in a live concert setting.
