This release features an archival live recording by the distinguished Indian sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. The performance took place on July 25, 1997, at the Barbican Centre in London, UK, with Pandit Kumar Bose providing rhythmic accompaniment on the tabla. Similar to the artist's previously released 1994 London concert recordings, this digital edition is part of an ongoing initiative by Navras Records (under exclusive license to Sony Music Entertainment India) to make their extensive vault of live Hindustani classical concerts at major British venues available on modern streaming platforms.
The digital album was officially released on June 4, 2026. Spanning one hour and fourteen minutes, the musical program is structured around two expansive raga performances, each preceded by a brief spoken introduction from the artist.
The first half is dedicated to the evening Raga Marwa, which progresses through traditional unmetered solo movements (alap, jor, and jhala) before launching into fast-paced rhythmic compositions (drut bandish) set to the 14-beat dhamar taal and the 16-beat teentaal. The second segment showcases Raga Durga, unfolding in medium (madhyalaya) and fast (drut) tempos, and incorporating rhythmic cycles of teentaal as well as the 10-beat jhaptaal.
