Brazilian singer Gal Costa, born in Salvador in 1945, became a pivotal figure of the Tropicália movement and one of the defining voices of Música Popular Brasileira (MPB). Beginning her career with the collaborative album Domingo (1967) alongside Caetano Veloso, she established a solo discography that became iconic across generations. Throughout the 1970s, she solidified her status through landmark solo releases (Gal A Todo Vapor, Índia) and as a member of the acclaimed supergroup Doces Bárbaros, alongside Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, and Maria Bethânia.
During the 1980s, her music enriched Brazil's Carnival culture with hits like "Balancê" and "Bloco Do Prazer," while albums such as Fantasia and Baby cemented her status as a cultural icon.
