The remix EP Evolution Of The Groove serves as a bridge connecting the iconic legacy of jazz trumpeter and composer Miles Davis with contemporary music culture. Designed as a precursor to the archival box set The Complete On The Corner Sessions, the project reimagines five landmark recordings from the 1950s through the 1970s, placing legendary sessions from albums like Kind of Blue and On The Corner into a modern marketplace using contemporary beat production and featured guest artists.
A premier lineup of musicians and producers collaborated to refresh the sound, including Miles Davis' nephew Vince Wilburn, Jr., drummer and co-producer Lenny White of Return To Forever, and bassist Charley Drayton. On "Freedom Jazz Dance," rapper Nas delivers verses alongside trumpet parts by his father Olu Dara and Miles Davis' original horn, while guitarist Carlos Santana solos over modern electronic beats on the centerpiece track "It's About That Time." The release also incorporates rare archival studio chatter with producer Irving Townshend alongside the raw grooves of "Honky Tonk" and "Black Satin."
