The Heliocentrics are an English, London-based musical collective, combining funk, jazz, psych and library influences based around drummer and producer Malcolm Catto, Bassist Jake Ferguson, Guitarist Adrian Owusu and multi-instrumentalist Jack Yglesias.
Contemporary psych funk torch carriers Heliocentrics get the remix/re-edit treatment from Gaslamp Killer -- who was given the keys to the interstellar vessel that is the Heliocentrics' 13 Degrees Of Reality record -- and je really trips out the sounds in incredible fashion! We cannot think of a more appropriate man for the job than GK, who is probably the most psych-indebted DJ/producer around. One side is Fantasy -- with lots of splintered out atmospherics, echoey washes and diverse soundscapes floating over the cosmic funk at the core. Whereas the Fantasy side finds Gaslamp Killer gleefully coloring outside the lines, the Reality side skews a bit closer the Heliocentrics sound -- though it's still plenty tripped out. A nice riff on the Heliocentrics vibe from a kindred spirit!
