"War of the Jewels" (2021) is the fifth full-length concept album by the Italian progressive rock band Ainur, released on March 19, 2021, via Rockshots Records.
The album is inspired by "The War of the Jewels," the eleventh volume of J.R.R. Tolkien's "History of Middle-earth." The album's plot focuses on the epic wars of the First Age for the Silmarils—the precious stones created by Fëanor—and the devastating confrontations between the Noldor and the forces of Morgoth.
Compared to the band's earlier releases, the album's sound is significantly heavier, more dynamic, and guitar-driven, touching on progressive metal while retaining its large-scale orchestrations, complex rhythmic patterns, and epic choral scores. The album features guest appearances from Ted Lindsley (Blind Guardian), who sang vocals on the track "Spirit Of Fire," as well as Roberto Tiranti (Labyrinth) and Derek Sherenian (ex-Dream Theater).
