Gus Till - Rainsong (2026) [Hi-Res]

BAND/ARTIST: Gus Till

Australian musician Gus Till, who emerged from Melbourne's post-punk and new wave scene at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, has spent more than four decades charting a path through a remarkably wide range of electronic music. Starting with experiments in the project Third Eye alongside Ollie Olsen, he went on to play a notable role in the birth of the global psy-trance movement, and his creative journey has crossed paths with figures such as Michael Hutchence, the group System 7, Manu Dibango, Todd Terry and Bim Sherman. His music has never settled into a single genre, moving freely between ambient and downtempo through to house, trance and psychedelic electronica.

The track ‘Rainsong’, first released on Japanese label Dakini Records in 2006, distills these pursuits into a nearly thirteen-minute composition built on a pulsating bassline, layered live percussion and soaring vocals, equally at home on the dancefloor and in more contemplative listening settings. Now label Second Circle reissues the track, pairing it with a remix by Japanese producer Kuniyuki Takahashi, who gradually leads the listener from a restrained introduction into a deep, richly textured version of the original — marked by subtle spatial processing and his signature atmospheric touch, while preserving the emotional core of the source material.
