After some 30 years I’ve recently returned to my old stomping ground of the 'Central Business District' in Melbourne. It seems befitting to finally release this recording made in 1986 at my dear friend’s Sam Sejavka and Donald Baldie’s house in Sutherland St. CBD Melbourne. At the time there was no thinking this was any particular ‘project’ as such. Kerry Simpson and Dean Hilson were dropping around to discuss some live gigs, there was no CD player in the apartment, so I set about creating some ambient loops as a background to their visit. The place was big and spacious, more like a loft and had orange sodium lights just outside the windows which suffused the place with a soft amber glow - it had a very unique and distinctive feel. I recorded some of these pieces that night and the following day Simon Polinski dropped over carrying his bass guitar, so I plugged him in and a few extra tracks were recorded, the whole thing being done in a couple of days with one extra track recorded at my home in Abbottsford. It was only a bit later on I realised this was actually viable as a project and stood up in it’s own right. Yet at this stage in Australia, it was sheer dreaming to imagine it could possibly be released by any record label, plus any thoughts of a self pressing being way beyond my means then. Hence, I’m glad to finally release it as I would of loved to of back then. Enjoy!
An edit of Bermuda first appeared on ‘the ‘Wabi’ Compilation, Flying Rhino 1998
Edited versions of Bower, Bermuda and Morning previously appeared on the album ‘Aquana Vol.1’ 2007
