Haruna Fukazawa, a Tokyo-born flutist, improviser, and composer based in New York, has established a distinguished career bridging classical technique with improvisational jazz. A voting member of the Recording Academy, she gained early guidance from Frank Wess after training at Musashino Academia Musicae. Her expertise has led to high-profile performances at iconic venues such as Blue Note and Carnegie Hall, alongside significant international appearances in Italy and Argentina. Her contributions to the field include multiple wins at the National Flute Association competitions and the release of acclaimed albums with the Haruna Fukazawa Quintet and Jazz Triangle 65-77. Beyond performing, Haruna Fukazawa influences the music community by teaching free-improvisation workshops and serving on the NFA Jazz Committee. Her work recently garnered a 2026 GRAMMY® nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for her role on the project SHAYAN.
