Crises is Mike Oldfield's eighth studio album, released in 1983.
With the album, Oldfield achieved great success in a new musical field: ''Moonlight Shadow'' and ''Shadow on the Wall'' became extremely popular pop hits. (The former is sung by Maggie Reilly, the latter by Roger Chapman.)
The album only contains one longer and one very short instrumental block, the other four pop songs. In addition to the aforementioned, Maggie Reilly also sings Foreign Affair, which can be heard in the performance of In High Places by Jon Anderson (Yes). On Crises, Oldfield himself sings shorter parts.
The predecessors of Taurus 3 can be found on the previous two albums (Taurus 1 and Taurus II), but the music is completely different on each of them. On the previous two albums, these were the longest compositions, but here this is the shortest. The series was not continued.
At the same time as the album, Mistake, also performed by Maggie Reilly, was released as a single. In some editions, this was also included on the Crises album.
The music was always written by Oldfield, usually the lyrics as well, but in the case of Foreign Affair he shared the lyrics with Maggie Reilly and in the case of In High Places he shared the lyrics with Jon Anderson.
On September 2, 2013, a reissue of Crises was released by Mercury, for which Oldfield personally did the restoration work.
The album was released in 5 different packaging, on regular CD, several bonus CDs and limited vinyl, but it is also available for digital download - in 16 and 24 bit versions.
Finally, the B-sides of the singles, which had never been released on CD before, can also be heard.
Unfortunately, Mike has not really pushed for reissues since then, except for his "firstborn", which is about. It has been released in 8 different remixes and packaging in the last 15 years...
After all, he is well retired, probably spending time with his countless grandchildren, and the income from Tubular Bells no longer inspires him to do anything.
