Ottawan - D.I.S.C.O (2005)

Ottawan is a French pop duo formed in the early 1980s. Fronted by Caribbean-born Jean Patrick Baptiste and Annette Eltice. The songs were written and produced by Daniel Vangarde and Jean Kluger. They went on hiatus in 1982, before reuniting with a new line-up in 1984. Tamara replaced Anette, and Baptiste returned from solo. The band continued with various line-ups and long hiatuses until 2012.

The duo was formed in 1979 by Daniel Vangarde and Jean Klaude. Fronted by Jean Patrick Baptiste and vocalist Annette. Kluger and Vangarde were also involved in the careers of the Gibson Brothers and Sheila B. Devotion. They also wrote songs for them.
In the United Kingdom, the single D.I.S.C.O reached the Top 10 in September 1980, and Hands Up reached number 1 in New Zealand in 1982, where it remained at the top of the charts for eight weeks. In France, You’re OK – T’es Ok in French – was one of the best-selling singles of all time. The duo recorded the song in both French and English.
After Patrick Baptiste left the group, he formed a new formation called Pam'n Pat, although they achieved little success. He later returned to the group. The Canadian band Sway covered Hands Up in 1988 and reached number 7 in Canada.
