Scottish musician and visual artist Mairearad Green, formerly of The Poozies, releases the album "Tim" — Gaelic for "time" (pronounced "Cheem"). Mairearad sings and plays piano, accordion, and smallpipes, and the album's cover features one of five original paintings of hers: the record ties into her exhibition at An Talla Solais gallery in Ullapool, with each song serving as a musical counterpart to one of the paintings.
The album opens with the gentle, traditionally-rooted "Old Dornie," with lyrics by Jan Kilpatrick, beginning with the sound of boats on water. "Knockan Crag," written by Mairearad herself, gains energy from Iain Hutchison's accompaniment on bass, guitar, synths, and programmed drums, evoking a rocky nature reserve. The instrumental "Camuscoillie" opens with stately smallpipes before dissolving into piano. "To The Ground" serves as something of the album's centerpiece, a song about looking around and appreciating what's there, followed by "I Swallowed The Sky," which reads as an exhortation to look beyond the horizon.
