The Tear Garden - To Be An Angel Blind, The Crippled Soul Divide (1996)

The third album of the Canadian project, one of the most interesting and darkest releases in the band's history. The album is like a strange journey into the depths of human consciousness: disturbing electronics, hazy synthesizers, psychedelic sound effects, mechanical rhythms and Ka-Spel's unpredictable vocal performance. At the same time, there are also a lot of melodies and atmospheres, and some compositions unfold as almost psychedelic musical journeys, only through an electronic and experimental filter.
The album is perhaps better listened to not as a collection of separate songs, but as a single coherent sonic journey. It has a strong cinematic effect: the music constantly changes its mood, from almost calm and hypnotic details to disturbing and surreal episodes.

Edward Ka-Spel does not so much "sing", but rather tells strange, dark and abstract stories. Sometimes he speaks almost in a whisper, sometimes with a theatrical accent. His voice makes the listener feel as if they have entered an extremely strange dream.
