The group's name relates to Kuepper's first recording group, The Saints, Autocannibalism dates from 1992, both on Hot Records. Australian music historian Ian McFarlane said of the band during this period, "With blistering, guitar-heavy tracks, these albums were the antithesis of Kuepper's solo work"
