Steven Soderbergh's new black-comedy caper The Christophers opened in UK cinemas on May 15, 2026, a week after its US release. It follows an elderly, eccentric painter named Julian Sklar, played by Ian McKellen, whose fame is fading despite his renown for a series of paintings called "The Christophers." His children hire a forger, played by Michaela Coel, to finish the unfinished works in the series so the family can secure an inheritance after his death. James Corden and Jessica Gunning, known for "Baby Reindeer," play Sklar's children. The screenplay was written by Ed Solomon, and filming took place in London's Camden and Fitzrovia neighborhoods in early 2025. The film has been very well received by critics, holding a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The score was composed by Northern Irish musician David Holmes, who made his name in the 1990s with trip-hop and big beat recordings. Holmes is a longtime Soderbergh collaborator, dating back nearly three decades to 1998's "Out of Sight," and including the "Ocean's" trilogy along with later films "Logan Lucky," "The Laundromat," and "Black Bag." Beyond the score, the soundtrack features two songs by Northern Irish singer-songwriter BEA — "Shine Like That" and "Hold Me Close" — who announced her involvement in the project on social media.
