What we hear here is not just another early jazz reissue, but one of the most important documents of the New Orleans jazz revival of the 1940s. These acetates were the first tangible evidence that legendary trumpeter Bunk Johnson was playing again after a long, almost complete oblivion.
According to the CD's liner notes, the recordings were made in New Orleans on June 11, 1942. The next day, June 12, the famous **Bunk Johnson Talking Records** were recorded, in which the musician talks about old New Orleans and its musical world.

The entire audio material was re-digitized for the compact disc in 1991. The work was done by sound engineer Gary Hobish at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California.
