Winter Descent (Live from the Studio) (Alex Forster Productions, March 20, 2026) is the first live studio album from London-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Alex Forster.
Recorded in a single take on a cold January evening, the album is a 50-minute journey through the depths of winter and out the other side. Each of the eight tracks is accompanied by a film — intercutting live studio footage with winter visuals Forster has gathered over several years — making the release as much a visual experience as an auditory one, best experienced in one sitting, full screen with headphones.
The eight pieces trace a deliberate arc: from Descent through the elemental — Fire, Rain, Desert, Forest, Snow, Flight — and back up through Ascent. The structure mirrors the seasonal cycle of immersion and return that has become characteristic of Forster's work, building on earlier nature-oriented albums such as Komorebi — Music for the Forest.
Forster describes this as the first in a planned series of live albums, and frames the decision as a conscious artistic statement at a time when AI-generated music is increasingly widespread. The entire album — performance, production, mixing and mastering — was carried out by Forster alone.
