Producer and multi-instrumentalist Bad Colours, also known as Ibe Soliman, has released his fourth studio album, Promise, on Bastard Jazz, which blends house, proto-techno, soul, hip-hop, and UK garage. The album, following his 2024 collaboration with Cor.Ece, Been Here Before, pairs hypnotic club rhythms with personal reflections on vulnerability, desire, and transformation. Designed for both the dancefloor and headphone listening, the record showcases his genre-blurring style and features multiple collaborations. Notably, the harp-driven title track includes Rachel Kitchlew, "We Never Choose" features rap and soulful vocals from Life On Planets, and "Freaks" enlists dance-rap legends Ninjasonik. Brandon Markell Holmes and Jarv Dee also contribute, and the Masters at Work-inspired closer "Home" features Bad Colours' own spoken-word poetry.
