personnel :
Mark O'Leary - electric guitar, 12-string acoustic guitar, implements, e-bow, electronics, loops
Cuong Vu - trumpet, electronics, loops
Tom Rainey - drums, percussion
The unusual guitar-trumpet-drums trio on this mostly freely improvised set works quite well. Inspired by the writings of Samuel Beckett, the music is unpredictable yet has its own logic. The electronics and some of guitarist Mark O'Leary's sounds have an otherworldly quality about them, almost making Cuong Vu's colorful trumpet spots sound conventional in comparison. The selections are more about moods than identifiable themes and the music is about sounds rather than individual solos. O'Leary, Vu and drummer Tom Rainey work well in creating a unique group sound, and the electronics make everything seem a bit ominous and spooky. The overall results are quite intriguing and worth exploring.~Scott Yanow
