Echolyn - Time Silent Radio Vii (2025) [Hi-Res]

Quite a few years ago, I worked with echolyn on ATW. That project bonded us for the ensuing decades and, while over the years we didn’t get to spend time together in the studio creatively, we made certain to stay in close contact. About a year ago or so, Brett expressed his desire to have someone with an ear he trusted weigh in on the mix process - and asked if I’d recommend someone to help him finish out the record. He forwarded the roughs from this project and, sheepishly, I suggested myself as a candidate for that role. The music on this project was so engaging, I hoped I could make a positive contribution. Utilizing some pretty remarkable modern tech (see Sessionwire) we were able to collaborate in real time/full fidelity and see our mutual goal come to fruition - to take Brett’s production and frame it in a vintage analog sonic pallet - essentially the best of both worlds, tech meets classic. I want to think we accomplished what we set out to do.

In 1994 Epic Records encouraged the band to make the album they wanted but to make sure that they wrote two songs for the radio. Echolyn wrote as they always did, and without much commercial regard. They wrote Echolyn music as artists do. They wrote to express themselves, how they felt in the moment, and how they heard it in their collective mind. Thirty full years later, Echolyn’s authenticity remains. They have written a lot of music since those early days, and their sound remains true, an essay of sonic energy. Now, in 2025, Echolyn presents, again, the sound and the artistry. What I hear today is what I heard then, and throughout the band’s 35 years; I hear honesty.
