To celebrate Duke Ellington’s 125th birthday and 50th anniversary of his passing, the Big Band of the Deutsche Oper Berlin pays tribute to the jazz legend with a special concert at Musikfest Berlin. The program features some of Ellington’s greatest hits from the Big Band era, including *Mood Indigo*, *Take the A Train*, and *Caravan*, as well as later works like *A Tone Parallel to Harlem* and *Night Creature*, which showcase his pioneering role in the "Third Stream" movement blending jazz with classical elements.
The evening also includes the world premiere of *The Famous Duke*, a newly composed suite by Manfred Honetschläger for big band and orchestra. Led by conductor Titus Engel, the performance brings together top musicians, including renowned saxophonist Tony Lakatos and award-winning vocalist Fola Dada.
